What We WantEnd the Link light rail at the initial 14-mile segment. Instead of extending it, fund a high quality, upgraded bus rapid transit (BRT) system, and a range of other services, which could include: frequent, all-day, comfortable express and local bus service; HOT (High Occupancy Toll) lanes, vanpools, and other innovative, cost-effective, safe, community-friendly transit options. In order to increase accountability, we support objective cost/benefit comparisons of alternatives and consolidation of transportation functions under directly elected representatives. Click here for comparison of Sound Transit's 1996 10-year plan with the reality of today. BENEFITS OF OUR PROPOSAL1) Produces results quickly by emphasizing low risk projects that can be implemented rapidly. That means more service, more facilities, and more jobs now. 2) Significantly increases transit and vanpool use. 3) Ensures public funds are spent wisely by using objective and transparent measurements of financial, environmental and social impacts. 4) Provides equity of benefits across the different communities paying for it. 5) Complements and supports our varied and unique neighborhoods. 6) Is safe for passengers and communities, clean, easy to understand, use and afford. 7) Emphasizes connections and not competition between agencies, communities and types of transportation. 8) Promotes evaluation, testing and implementation of a wide range of non-traditional solutions to mobility and financing such as telecommuting, vanpool incentives, employer based commuter reduction programs, value pricing, rapid accident/breakdown clearance, and other innovative ways to improve mobility and reduce congestion. 9) Provides direct voter accountability and less confusion about Who’s in charge. |
