House Transportation Committee needs to hear from you on Sound Transit accountability bills

In September of 2000, 86 community leaders set aside their political, geographic and social affiliations and signed a letter to the Sound Transit Board asking for an Independent Audit. Many stood together and publicly asked for that Audit.

It is time to come together as one Community again, 2 1/2 years later to support reform and accountability of Sound Transit. The environmental, economic/social and political health of our Region depends on it.

We are on the verge of reform and regaining of voter confidence. Thanks to the bi-partisan leadership of the Senate four very good Bills have passed -(the one for a non-partisan elected board by 40/9) out of the Senate, but have yet to be given a hearing by the Chair of the House Transportation Committee, Rep. Ed Murray.

One or more of these Bills must pass out of the Legislature this year.

Sound Transit is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on lobbying, here and in DC, every year. A show of support from the constituents and community leaders is potentially much more powerful. We believe that the Elected Board (SB5538) and the Sub-area Equity Bill (SB 5674) have a high probability for passage- if they can get out of House Transportation Committee.
