Samples of Letters We've Sent
Letter from Bothell City Councilmember Dick Paylor to Joni Earl regarding Sound Transit's response to I-776
November 7, 2002
Joni,
Thanks for the report. For the record, I voted against I-776. Nevertheless, it passed and we all have to deal with the consequences. With the prospect of even less money available to address our transportation needs
I will once again state my position that we should be spending our limited resources based on priorities. Project funding approval must be based on congestion relief and other factors that permit the most amount of people to be moved through the system in the least amount of time at the least cost per person.
More than ever before, it is about addressing our highest priority needs, not our wants or choices. Our economy, our region's reputation and our ability to regain the trust of the voters are all at stake. Sound Transit is in the enviable position of having an established source of revenue for the forseeable future. I can only hope that the board now understands how important it is to invest these resources in a way that the voters will see and experience a real difference. HOV projects, Express busses, park and ride lots, transit centers and related projects are meeting that objective. Light rail will not stand the test of any reasonable prioritization and it is time for the board to accept that fact and demonstrate leadership. We have a crisis in transportation funding and voter confidence and the board can choose to be part of the problem or the solution.
I choose to be part of the solution.
Thanks for listening.
Regards,
Dick Paylor
Bothell City Councilmember
